The exhibition project stems from the intuition that, across distant eras and geographies, the image of the mother with a child constitutes one of the most persistent visual narratives in human history. From the Mater Matuta of ancient Rome to the Indian depictions of Hariti, to the Renaissance Madonnas, an iconographic and symbolic continuity unfolds, spanning the Mediterranean and Asia, paganism and Christianity, myth and devotion.
