Ever Closer Union – The Legacy of the Treaties of Rome for Today’s Europe

Ever Closer Unionincreasingly united Europe” is a traveling exhibition,
which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome.

It is an inter-institutional collaboration of which the conception and contents are owed to the European University Institute; the translation of texts to the European Parliament; the management of the website and the catalog to the European Union; to the European Commission, together with archival services of the other institutions and ANSA (National Agency Associated Press), iconographic and audiovisual contributions. Two Italian institutions involved in the project: the Department for European Affairs of the Council of Ministers takes care of its realization and exhibition in Italy while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation manages the exhibition abroad, along with the European Parliament and the European Commission for the EU states, and hosts the inauguration in Italy.

With this exhibition, the archives of the European Union retrace the entire history of the European integration through documents, images and testimonies, from the Ventotene Manifesto till today, in 14 panels divided into four thematic sections.

The introduction follows a historical documented reflection on the legacy of the Treaties of Rome in the economic, social and international Europe of yesterday and today, which concludes with a look at future challenges.

Ever Closer Unionincreasingly united Europe” was inaugurated on March 16 in Rome, and will be put on display throughout 2017 in Italy, in the EU and around the world: from Brussels to Helsinki, from Paris to Lisbon from Frankfurt to Algiers and from Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur. Over 200 sites involved.
