DIGAMBARIM – The Body Alone with Francesca Fini

DIGAMBARIM – The Body Alone, which is a combination of storytelling narrative and mixed media art, is based on an avatar of ‘Kali’, the destroyer and a symbol of ‘Shakti’ – the power of the feminine, of destruction of the old and the creation of the new. The story is of the relationship of a daughter and father which is symbolic of the duel between the traditional overarching power of patriarchy from which the postmodern woman negotiates to modify and hence express her identity. The performance also explores this relationship in a post human world, an age which is becoming.

Francesca Fini who is a performance artist and based in Rome, Italy. She is one of the most significant practitioners of interdisciplinary art in Europe. Her work which is highly experimental in nature, and often deals with the concept of ‘divine femininity’, the perception of woman and issues related in her various struggles and existence in the western society.

Janardan Ghosh is a theatre practitioner, storyteller and a performer from Kolkata, who has been experimenting with both forms and themes in his performances, has been exploring the semantic of Kali in contemporary context though performances. Indeed much of the past work has explored the themes of spirituality, myth, gender, sexuality and society, and this is a continuation of this process.

Pradip Chaterjee is a musician who experiments with atonal music in performances and has been interacting with sound and performance art, thereby creating a new aural experience.
