The Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, New Delhi will be screening Film, Stranizza d’Amuri/ Fireworks, Finalists – David di Donatello Awards for best directorial debut – 2024 edition directed by Giuseppe Fiorello
Set in Sicily during the summer of 1982, against the backdrop of Italy’s fervent participation in the FIFA World Cup, the story follows 17-year-old Gianni, a gay teenager who faces bullying and ostracization in his conservative village. His life takes a turn when he meets 16-year-old Nino after a minor scooter accident. Nino, the eldest son in a family of fireworks makers, is captivated by Gianni’s spirit. Their friendship deepens into a secret romantic relationship, challenged by the prevailing homophobia and societal prejudices of the time.
