TUESDAYS AT ISTITUTO – CINEMA

italian film(2)

Given the success of the Italian Summer Film Festival, the IIC proposes new films of recent production throughout the month of July.

“La Bussola – Il Collezionista di Stelle” directed by Andrea Soldani to be Screened on 9th july 2024.

Symbol of post-war Italian economic euphoria and rebirth, La Bussola by Sergio Bernardini in Focette, a fraction of Marina di Pietrasanta, in the heart of Versilia, held the distinction of hosting numerous national and international stars and changed the taste of several generations of patrons.
Opening with Renato Carosone in 1955, Bernardini engaged an impressive roster of famous artists, bringing to Italy the cream of international music: Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Chet Baker. Thirty years after the death of its founder, who passed away in a car accident in 1993, family, friends, and collaborators of the impresario remember his unparalleled achievement.

” Misericordia” by Emma Dante to be screened on 16th July 2024.

In a dilapidated complex of shacks close to the sea, somewhere in a dreamlike Sicily, a group of prostitutes lead a degraded life together with Arturo, a boy with mental and physical disorders. Arturo’s father, as well as protector-master of prostitutes, is Polyphemus, a violent and volatile one-eyed man who beat the mother of his son to death and who seems to want to do the same to Arturo. The women, however, try to create an escape route from this nightmare of sea and violence for the boy they raised as putative mothers, in the uncertain hope of a better future.

“Who to Love” by Giorgio Testi to be screened on 30th July 2024.

After having created videos, shows and live concert footage for Blur, Oasis, Sting, the Rolling Stones, London Grammar, Giorgio Testi directs the thirty-minute fictional video Who To Love, created by Dave Stewart together with the album of the same title.
