The Italian Embassy Cultural Centre in collaboration with Kiran Nadar Museum of Art is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition “Oggetti fra le righe”.
Objects in literature are often not just part of the background but protagonists in the stories unfolding within narratives and novels. Some are true inventions, born from the minds of brilliant writers who are, in a sense, “designers,” conscious or unconscious creators of “things” that evoke worlds and imagery. Others are everyday objects that collectively define settings, functioning in literary narration as vivid portraits that simultaneously convey both physical and psychological atmospheres, often more effectively than personal adjectives alone.
At times, literary texts trigger free associations with iconic objects from design history, perfectly embodying the descriptions crafted through words and giving physical form to the mental images activated by reading.
This exhibition, produced by the Italian Cultural Institute of New Delhi, explores the relationship between two great disciplines of Italian creative thought – literature and design.
For the occasion, specially commissioned works have been created by Italian and Indian designers, architects, graphic artists, and visual artists, crafted by Indian artisans. Alongside these original creations, key pieces from the history of Italian design, lent by public institutions and private collections, will also be displayed.
The exhibition is curated by Andrea Anastasio, Director of the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre and Domitilla Dardi, historian & design curator.
