Invisible Flavours – Sapori invisibili

Sapori invisibili

In the framework of the Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World, the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre is proud to announce a special exhibition “Sapori Invisibili”. The exhibition, curated by Sara Visco and Andrea Anastasio, is entirely focused on the wooden utensils used in regional Italian cuisine.

The display of tools in collaboration with the Museum of Civilizations of Rome is entirely structured around the MUCIV collection and intends to bring to the visitor’s attention the vast variety of tools and stylistic/ornamental elements that characterize them. From the bread seal, to the quince molds, to the barrels and tubs, from the mortars to the salt shakers and tubs, from the bigoncioli to the lasagne cutter, the exhibition makes visible a horizon of extraordinary richness, connected to the pre-modern rural world, still capable of inspiring modernity. Beyond documenting a vast variety of stylistic elements, these objects do also show the link between culinary art, popular culture and crafts community.

This interesting intersection of knowledge characterizes the extraordinary ability of rural culture to build communities around hubs of knowledge capable of modulating the unfolding of everyday life and, at the same time, of narrating it through the making of visual and material stories.

The Italian Culture Centre – New Delhi thanks the MUCIV, Museum of Civilizations of Rome for the precious and generous collaboration.
