The Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, in collaboration with India Habitat Centre, is pleased to present Nostalghia, Andrei Tarkovski’s deeply meditative masterpiece, restored by the Cineteca di Bologna.

Co-written with Italian screenwriter Tonino Guerra, the film follows a Russian poet who arrives in Italy with his interpreter to research the life of an obscure 18th-century composer. As he journeys through the hauntingly beautiful Italian countryside and ancient thermal towns, he encounters a troubled visionary whose apocalyptic warnings and strange wisdom unsettle his sense of purpose.

Tarkovski weaves a luminous exploration of exile, spiritual longing, and the fragile bridges between cultures. Nostalghia stands as one of his most profoundly personal works—a film that contemplates the ache of displacement and the possibility of redemption through faith, empathy, and artistic pursuit. This restored print offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience the film’s hypnotic imagery and emotional depth as Tarkovski intended.
