An idyllic mountain town in the Italian dolomites is shocked by the murder of teenager Anna. Her body is found by the lake without any traces of physical violence. Inspector Sanzio is sent from the province’s capital to take charge of this case, in which the victim is quite as mystifying as the cause of her death. Amongst the suspects he finds the village fool, Anna’s boyfriend and even her own father, whose home videos display an interest in the girl that is more than paternal. Even the recently divorced neighbour, whose autistic child recently died in an extraordinary accident, arouses the detective’s suspicion. A brooding sky, foggy paths and a stunning mountain panorama draw all the more attention to the dark secrets of the little town.
