The 22nd Edition of the Ishara Puppet Festival will take place from 13th to 22nd February, bringing together renowned puppeteers, artists, and storytellers from across India and abroad to showcase diverse traditions of puppetry, workshops, performances, and cultural exchanges. The Italian Embassy Cultural Centre is pleased to present the Di Filippo Marionette duo as part of this year’s edition.
Di Filippo Marionette is an Italian-Australian puppet theater company founded in 2010 by the Italian puppet actor Remo Di Filippo. Initially trained in theater at the University of Bologna and after working in commedia dell’arte and various theatrical genres, his passion for puppetry was ignited when he discovered the “Casa Taller de Marionetas de Pepe Otal” in Barcelona, where he delved into the art of puppet construction and animation. In 2014, Filipino-Australian performer Rhoda Lopez joined the company, bringing her rich theatrical background, singing, dancing and all her talents. Together, they make their own puppets in their workshop in Offida, Italy, infusing each creation with unique art and a personal touch.
In their shows, the puppets tell their stories through movement, music, live singing and interaction with their “manipulators”. The company has presented its shows in over 30 countries, obtaining numerous international awards. In addition to performing, they also direct a puppet theater festival, International FOF, in their town Offida, thus contributing to the cultural liveliness of the Marche, their region.
