The Italian Embassy Culture Centre in New Delhi, in collaboration with MUCIV – Museo delle Civiltà di Roma, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in New Delhi, Centrale Montemartini and the Museo Barracco in Rome, is proud to present a new exhibition at the Humayun’s Tomb Museum. Curated by Laura Giuliano, archaeologist and senior curator at MUCIV and conceived by Andrea Anastasio, director of the Italian Culture Centre in New Delhi, the project places at its core the extraordinary richness and historical depth of the Asian Collection of the Museo delle Civiltà in Rome.
This exhibition is part of Shared Stories, an ongoing curatorial initiative that explores the transmission, circulation and transformation of motifs, ideas and material cultures across Eurasia. Through the encounter of objects, narratives and artistic languages, Shared Stories reveals how cultures have continually shaped one another, dismantling the notion of isolated civilisations and illuminating the deep, intertwined histories that connect them.
The exhibition highlights the exceptional role of Rome’s Asian Collection as a bridge across cultures, bearing witness to centuries of exchanges, migrations, artistic dialogues and shared knowledge. By showcasing rare objects of remarkable beauty and significance, the project underscores how these collections continue to inspire contemporary understandings of cultural interconnectedness.
Hosted at the Humayun’s Tomb Museum—one of the most emblematic heritage sites in New Delhi—the exhibition offers a unique encounter between Italian collections and India’s profound historical landscape, reaffirming the value of international cultural collaboration and the shared commitment to safeguarding and celebrating global heritage.
