Cinema at the Institute: Retrospective Nino Manfredi 1921-2004
In Italian, with subtitles in English
The protagonist, from early childhood, receives a very repressive religious education identifying sex with sin. As the first communion approaches, he did not dare to tell the confessor that he had seen her aunt naked. Distraught, he falls into a ravine. Returning unharmed from the fall, he is considered to be a miracle, dedicated to St. Eusebius, and given to a monastery. As an adult, he becomes a salesman and, in his travels, he meets a radical pharmacist who can cure him of his religious obsession and who gives him his daughter in marriage. On his deathbed, however, the pharmacist accepts the Extreme Unction and the son-in-law falls back into doubts.
