5th edition of the Experimenter Curators’ Hub 2015 (ECH) on Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th & Saturday 25th July, 2015
The Hub is a crucial platform in developing and sustaining discourse on curatorial practice and exhibition making. Each year the hub invites ten curators to present and discuss their practice in depth with reference to recent exhibitions curated by them. The Experimenter Curators’ Hub in its 5th edition, will be held over three days and will bring together some of the foremost minds in curatorship from all over the world. The participating curators for ECH 2015 are: Giovanni Carmine I Doryun Chong I Shanay Jhaveri I Jitish Kallat I Aleksandra Kędziorek I Dr. Tasneem Zakaria Mehta I Matt Packer I Hoor Al Qasimi I Eugenio Viola I Kazuhiko Yoshizaki The 3-day event will see a coming together of Indian and international curators and the visual arts community, critics, writers, thinkers, artists, collectors, theorists and people interested in contemporary visual art practice. Experimenter Curators’ Hub 2015 is presented in association with Pro Helvetia – The Swiss Arts Council and is supported by the British Council, Polish Institute, Japan Foundation, Italian Embassy Cultural Center, Sharjah Art Foundation & The Park Hotels. EUGENIO VIOLA
Eugenio Viola is an art critic and Curator at Large at Madre, The Contemporary Art Museum of Naples. He got his Ph.D. in “Methods and Methodologies of Archaeological and Historical-Artistic Research” from the University of Salerno. He is a scholar of theories and practices related to performance and Body Art. On this subject he has extensively lectured in Italy and abroad, he has published several essays, and he has edited the monographs devoted to Regina José Galindo (Ed. Skira, Milan, 2014), Hermann Nitsch (Ed. Morra, Naples, 2013), Marina Abramović (Ed. 24 Ore Cultura, Milan, 2012), and Orlan (Ed. Charta, Milan, 2007). He collaborates on regular basis with “Artforum” (USA). He is a member of IKT (“International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art”) and he is on several awards international committees and panels.
At Madre Museum he is the curator of the collection, and he curated exhibitions devoted to Daniel Buren, Francis Alÿs, Vettor Pisani, the network project Transit with the Middle East (Madre Museum, Naples / Townhouse, Cairo / PiST, Istanbul / CCA, Tel Aviv / State Museum, Thessaloniki, 2009-2011); and the performance festival Corpus. Art in Action (2009-2012). As a free-lance curator he has curated a number of exhibitions in Italy and abroad, among the others: Karol Radziszewski (CoCA Torun, 2014); Mark Raidpere (EKKM The Contemporary Art Museum of Tallinn, 2013); Marina Abramović (PAC | Padiglione di Arte Contemporanea, Milan, 2012); Orlan (Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Etienne Métropole, 2007). Viola is curator of the Estonian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Bienalle, 2015.
