The Italian Embassy Cultural Centre is continuing its Artecinema Film Festival in collaboration with British Council with the screening of two documentary films: Anish Kapoor -Descension & Shilpa Gupta.

Anish Kapoor – Descension (director Matteo Frittelli – 2015)

Considered one of the most renowned contemporary artists on the international scene, Anish Kapoor returns to exhibiting in Italy with his exhibit Descension, a project specifically conceived for the venue of the Galleria Continua’s theatre/cinema in San Gimignano. The pivotal feature of the exhibit is the Descension installation, which is also the name of the solo exhibit. The words of the artist, interviewed during the staging of the exhibit, accompany the images of the works on exhibit.

Shilpa Gupta (director Alyssa Verbizh – 2009)

Born in Bombay in 1976, Shilpa Gupta is considered one of the most promising talents on the artistic scene in India. Through the use of interactive videos, web sites, installations, photography and performances, she explores society and power structures in the age of globalization as well as our imagination and unconscious. She delves into the subjects of racist-related terrorism, religious fundamentalism, our obsession with security, alienating frontiers and areas of conflict between individuals. We follow this artist in the labyrinth of crowded, chaotic streets of her beloved city of Mumbai, an endless source of inspiration, and observe the realization of various works exhibited in Paris and Lyon.
