Shared Stories

SHARED STORIES DRAFT RED (8)

The Italian Embassy Cultural Centre is delighted to present a special exhibition organized in collaboration with Museo delle Civiltà di Roma, Capitoline Museums of Rome, Aga Khan Foundation, Humayun’s Tomb Museum & the Archeological Survey of India.

Shared Stories invites visitors on a journey across the vast network that once linked the Mediterranean to East Asia. Through a stunning selection of artworks, textiles, sculptures, and decorative objects, the exhibition reveals how trade, travel, and encounter shaped shared artistic languages and cultural traditions across continents.

The exhibition offers a reflection on the complexity and depth of the human and cultural relationships that shaped the ancient world and, in different ways, the premodern and modern worlds. Through works from the Indian Subcontinent, Central Asia, China, Iran, and the Mediterranean — dating from the centuries immediately preceding the Common Era to the nineteenth century — Shared Stories traces the diffusion and adaptation of shared visual codes, the circulation of cultural motifs, and the intertwining of religious and philosophical dialogues that continued to resonate over time.

At its heart, Shared Stories celebrates connection — the exchange of ideas, styles, and beliefs that gave rise to new forms of creativity. It invites visitors to discover how the movement of people and objects across time built a world defined not by isolation, but by dialogue, transformation, and shared imagination.
