Professor Emerita Romila Thapar is one of India’s most renowned historians and a transformative figure in the study of ancient Indian history. Formerly Professor of Ancient History at Jawaharlal Nehru University, her pioneering research reframed early Indian historiography through a focus on society, culture, and politics. Her influential works include Ashoka and the Decline of the Mauryas and Early India: From Origins to AD 1300. Professor Thapar has been honoured with the prestigious Kluge Prize and elected to both the British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Professor Naman Ahuja is a curator and professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, specializing in art history. He is also the General Editor of Marg.
His studies on ancient terracottas and small everyday objects examine the foundations of Indian visual aesthetics. His publications and curatorial projects – The Body in Indian Art, The Making of Modern Indian Artist Craftsman, Gandhara: A Confluence of Culturesm and India & the World, to name a few – have drawn attention to Indian iconography, transculturalism in antiquity and the historiography of the Arts and Crafts Movement
