Screening of the newly restored film La Notte (1961) directed by Michelangelo Antonioni
Preceded by a special reading performance by Italian actress Iaia Forte
Wednesday, 13th November, 7:00pm
To inaugurate the series of events celebrating the centenary of Marcello Mastroianni’s birth, the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre is delighted to present the screening of the critically acclaimed film La Notte. Marcello Mastroianni and Jeanne Moreau star as a novelist and his frustrated wife, who, over the course of one night, confront their alienation from each other and the achingly empty bourgeois Milan circles in which they travel. Monica Vitti smolders as an industrialist’s tempting daughter. Moodily sensual cinematography and subtly expressive performances make La notte an indelible illustration of romantic and social deterioration.
The screening will be preceded by a special reading of Marcello Mastroianni’s letter by award-winning actress Iaia Forte.
Iaia Forte is an acclaimed Italian actress known for her powerful performances in film and theatre. She gained recognition with L’Amore Molesto (1995) for which she earned critical acclaim. She is also well-known for her collaborations with director Paolo Sorrentino, particularly for her memorable role in The Great Beauty (2013), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
The restoration of La Notte was carried out in 2024 by the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale in collaboration with the rights holder, Compass Film.
Entry will be on a first come first served basis
