The film narrates the story of Zeno, a watchman and Rossana, musician. When they move to Rome on business the two are already fighting domestic battles, but the change will exacerbate the sentimental inertia leading them to live conflicting temporal situations. Rossana locks herself inside the house as it were a cage, while Zeno spends his nights immersed in work with his exuberant and light-hearted colleague, Tom. The friendship with Tom and Ela, a young bartender, is a comfort to Zeno but will also cause big troubles for Zeno and Rossana.
