Cinema at the institute: Incontri in biblioteca: 1945-2015: 70 years of Neorealism

The director Alessandro Blasetti is searching for a little girl to play a part in a movie. A crowd of mothers rushes to Cinecittà including commoner Maddalena Cecconi with her daughter Maria. The mother makes any sacrifice to make the photographer, the teachers of acting, dance, the hairdresser and the seamstress available and quarrels with her husband Spartaco, contrary to his wishes of success for his daughter. She also pays a swindler to get her daughter the role; the girl is finally selected. Maddalena sees the projection and as she sees her daughter crying bitterly in the entourage, she is taken aback. Outraged, she realizes of having it done all wrong, and when the daughter is actually chosen for the film, she refuses to sign the contract and makes peace with her husband.
