DELHI: LUNGA VITA ALLA SIGNORA! – Long Live The Lady – Satire – 1987

Cinema at the Institute: Incontri in Biblioteca: 1st Italian Cuisine Week in the World

In Italian with subtitles in English

Each year, an old and powerful lady calls the notables of her district for dinner in her castle in the mountains as an act of reverence. A glitzy ceremony it is, which is witnessed by an enraptured young busboy, Libenzio, candid son of peasants. As the dinner progresses, Libenzio, however, notices the pettiness and humiliation to which the guests are subjected in order to let them keep their power; the atmosphere of the castle that seemed enviable at first, now appears to him stuffy, until dawn gives him an opportunity to escape to run in the meadows for fresh air and freedom. Olmi’s vigorous metaphor against power, which opposes the genuineness of his beloved peasant world.
