CROSS CULTURAL ENCOUNTERS: CONVERSATION BETWEEN DAVIDE QUADRIO AND MYNA MUKHERJEE on 13 DECEMBER at 7PM

Italian Embassy Cultural Centre invites you to the Cross Cultural Encounters: Conversation Between Davide Quadrio and Myna Mukherjee on 13th December, 7pm at Italian Embassy Cultural Centre.

Davide Quadrio and Myna Mukherjee will be taking their experiences to parallel and discuss the cross cultural practice that has been at the core of their own professional practice in over 20 years. Their experiences between India, China and the rest of the world will be presented with several key studies and samples, including the project entitled “Crafting the world: visions of the making” that Mukherjee and Quadrio will be presenting in Delhi, at the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, next January during the India Art Fair.

With a background of Oriental Studies in Italy and more than twenty years spent in Asia, Davide Quadrio is a sinologist, curator, producer and art historian, as well as founder of BizArt Art Center, the first not-for-profit independent creative lab in Shanghai, and co-founder of Arthub Asia, a platform to organize, curate and support artistic endeavors in Asia and worldwide, which promotes mobility projects and cross-border partnerships. With BizArt and Arthub, Davide Quadrio has organized hundreds of exhibitions, educational activities and exchanges in China and other countries, in order to strengthen the relationship between Europe and Asia. His successful career includes major positions such as artistic director of the Bund18 Creative Space in Shanghai and curator of famous exhibitions. He is author of several publications and articles on modern and contemporary art and often gives lectures and workshops at international universities.

Myna Mukherjee is a cultural producer, curator, founder and director of Engendered, a New York/New Delhi based Transnational Arts and Human rights organization with a focus on the intersections of gender and sexuality in South Asia. A management strategy consultant by training, Myna left a successful career on Wall Street to produce and curate the best in contemporary South Asian art, cinema and performance festivals in New York. She founded Nayikas, NY’s acclaimed first resident Indian Odissi Dance theater company and was the director of the I-View Film Festival, North America’s biggest South Asian film festival on gender and sexuality, for three years. She has curated internationally at the Lincoln Center, Asia Society, Tribeca Film Center, Queens Museum and others. She has been overseeing an alternative art space and incubating the Delhi Chapter of Engendered. She curated several critically acclaimed exhibitions including the largest multidisciplinary exhibition on gender violence in India that travelled to four cities in 2012 called RESIST.
