Re-making the contemporary – The art-architecture-archeology-heritage complex at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale
This talk analyzes the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) as a site for the encounter of contemporary art, its venues, architectural styles, the mobilization of archeology around the lost port of Muziris, and heritage discourses. This encounter is termed as an art-architecture-archeology-heritage complex. The talk argues that while the KMB is anchored to the investigation of the contemporary, it operates through making large use of portions of the regional past and its diverse material worlds.
